SINGAPORE, December 9, 2024 – Zilliqa, a prominent layer-1 blockchain known for its pioneering sharding technology, has announced the deployment of the Aventurine proto-mainnet. This development marks a significant step towards the anticipated launch of Zilliqa 2.0.
The Aventurine proto-mainnet serves as a comprehensive test environment, introducing several enhancements over the previous Jasper release. It is designed to facilitate a smooth transition to Zilliqa 2.0, which will be fully realized with the Agate release. The proto-mainnet will technically launch two networks: an upgraded version of the existing Jasper proto-testnet and a new proto-mainnet that imports the historical state from the current Zilliqa mainnet.
Existing decentralized applications (dApps) on the Zilliqa mainnet, such as the PlunderSwap decentralized exchange and the Safe multi-signature wallet, will be integrated into the proto-mainnet. Additionally, upcoming dApps will be incorporated following their launch.
Enhancing Interoperability and Staking Opportunities
Aventurine introduces critical interoperability between the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Zilliqa’s Scilla smart contract language. This advancement allows Zilliqa fungible tokens to function as EVM-compatible tokens. Tokens used in major Zilliqa dApps, including $FPS, $XCAD, $XSGD, $HRSE, and $SEED, will be available on the proto-mainnet. Support will also be added to bridge these tokens from the proto-mainnet to Binance Smart Chain (BSC) after the Aventurine launch.
The foundation for this interoperability was laid by Zilliqa’s recent partnership with EMURGO, leveraging Wanchain to deploy a strategic cross-chain bridge between Zilliqa 2.0 and Cardano networks upon the mainnet launch. Wanchain CEO Temujin Louie highlighted the importance of this bridge, stating, “Our decentralized cross-chain technology will ensure secure, scalable transfers between the Zilliqa 2.0 network and Cardano.”
Proto-Mainnet Features and Developer Engagement
The Aventurine proto-mainnet also introduces delegated staking contracts, which can be tested by validators and include support for liquid staking. A new staking portal will be launched alongside the Zilliqa 2.0 mainnet in the Agate release, allowing users to earn rewards for securing the network.
Zilliqa’s Head of Research, Zoltan Fazekas, commented on the launch, stating that the proto-mainnet provides developers, validators, and stakers an opportunity to experiment with the Zilliqa 2.0 protocol. Many validators have already begun onboarding, facilitated by Zilliqa’s partnership with LSP, a staking project with significant reach in Asia.
Developers and stakers are encouraged to explore Aventurine as they prepare to build and stake on Zilliqa’s next-generation blockchain technology. For more information, visit the Zilliqa roadmap website.
