Ripple, a leader in digital asset infrastructure, has announced a partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a globally trusted humanitarian organization. This collaboration aims to explore how Ripple’s cross-border payments solution and the upcoming RLUSD stablecoin can enhance the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Ripple has committed $1 million over multiple years to support the IRC. This funding is part of their joint initiative to leverage blockchain technology, including Ripple’s global payments network and open-sourced solutions built on the XRP Ledger, in two critical areas: cash relief programs and cross-border fund transfers.
The partnership combines Ripple’s expertise in compliant blockchain payments with the IRC’s extensive experience in delivering impactful humanitarian aid across more than 40 countries. This includes over $70 million in cash and voucher relief, creating a powerful alliance with the potential to revolutionize aid delivery on a large scale.
Transforming Aid Delivery with Blockchain
Eric van Miltenburg, SVP of Strategic Initiatives at Ripple, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “Partnering with the International Rescue Committee marks an important milestone in Ripple’s mission to leverage blockchain technology for positive global impact.” He highlighted the opportunity to learn from the IRC’s deep experience in delivering aid, which will help Ripple support humanitarian efforts at scale.
David Miliband, President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting, “The IRC is committed to exploring innovative solutions that help us respond rapidly to communities impacted by humanitarian crises.” He added that they are excited to partner with Ripple to explore how technologies like stablecoins can enhance the speed and efficiency of cash relief, particularly in regions with limited access to traditional banking infrastructure.
Through its Ripple Impact program, Ripple has supported numerous humanitarian organizations in expanding financial inclusion. With the United Nations reporting 360 million people in need of aid amid growing global crises, this collaboration with the IRC aims to explore Ripple’s blockchain-based solutions to enhance the speed, security, and accessibility of aid delivery.
