Coinbase has been announced as the official cryptocurrency partner of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the 111th Grey Cup. This partnership marks a significant milestone for the cryptocurrency exchange as it collaborates with one of Canada’s most celebrated sports leagues. The announcement was made here.
Lucas Matheson, CEO of Coinbase Canada, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “The CFL is one of Canada’s most celebrated sports leagues, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with them.” He emphasized the goal of deepening Canadians’ connection with cryptocurrency and providing tools and opportunities to participate in the digital economy.
Canada is home to an estimated five million cryptocurrency holders, representing about 13 percent of the population. This positions Canada as the second-most crypto-aware country among Coinbase’s international markets. The partnership aims to capitalize on this awareness by offering CFL fans incentives to engage with cryptocurrency.
To celebrate the partnership, Coinbase is offering $25 in bitcoin to every CFL fan after their first trade on the Coinbase mobile app or Coinbase.com. Additionally, fans can earn regular season tickets for next season or bitcoin prizes by scanning QR codes. A grand prize of $50,000 in bitcoin and an Ultimate Grey Cup Experience trip for two to the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg is also up for grabs.
Coinbase officially launched in Canada in 2023 and has since become the first international exchange registered as a Restricted Dealer in the country. This status highlights Coinbase’s commitment to providing Canadians with safe and secure access to digital assets.
Tyler Keenan, CFL’s Chief Revenue Officer, commented on the partnership, noting, “Technology has transformed how fans interact with the game. Partnering with a forward-thinking company like Coinbase allows us to grow our offerings and develop more exciting and innovative ways to connect with our amazing fans.”
The 111th Grey Cup will be held at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver on Sunday, November 17. The event will feature the internationally acclaimed Jonas Brothers in the Twisted Tea Grey Cup Halftime Show, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
